How To Hit A Volleyball Hard: Swipe, Tool, Wipe

Another slang word used to describe the same hitter attempt to score a point using the blocker's hands or arms as a 'tool' against them by 'wiping' or 'swiping' the ball against their "pressed" arms to wipe the ball off

The swipe, wipe and the tool are very similar concepts.

If your setter sets you a trap set which is a ball that falls too far inside the court or too close to the net and you need an option in order to score a point, your last option is to wipe the ball or swipe the ball against the blocker's hands so that the ball touches them last before it lands out of bounds.   

If you hear someone say to "tool" the block its also the same concept but just another slang word used to describe the same hitter attempt to score a point using the blocker's hands or arms as a 'tool' against them by 'wiping' or 'swiping' the ball against their "pressed" arms to wipe the ball off of  before the ball bounces out without anyone getting to it. 

How To Hit A Volleyball Hard: Down Ball

When you hit the ball while standing on the ground without taking a spike approach the attack is called a "down ball" because you are hitting the ball without taking a spike approach.

Usually when you spike a ball you contact the ball after launching yourself in the air with a three or four step spike approach.
